This country pub at the heart of the Island with beautiful views of the surrounding countryside was formerly a Whitbread house. Considering its present popularity after an extensive rebuild it is astonishing that Whitbread closed the pub and sold it. Dating back to the mid 1800’s it was once a customs and excise house. These days it is heavily food and family orientated but surprisingly still retains a flagstone-floored public bar and fine pint of beer. There are some very good children’s facilities including a large outdoor play area and changing room. Recent achievements have seen it voted “Family Pub of the Year”.
