Situated opposite the turning to Colwell Bay, the pub has been in existence for over 200 years and was originally called the Drum and Monkey, then the Nelson. It is believed that Lord Nelson stayed here under guard on his way to London to answer charges of not following rules of engagement in naval encounters with French forces – hence the name. The pub was the coastguard’s barracks for some years. It is well supported by locals and tourist and a recent major refurbishment has put it on the map locally. There is a huge car park and disabled access to the terrace and bar. There is also an extensive beer garden with an adventure playground and a toddlers safe play area to keep the children happy while you relax. An extensive menu for adults and children completes the package, altogether a very pleasant pub.

Spectacular view from Colwell Bay to Hurst Castle, just three miles across the Solent. Separate games room, and a bonus of having one of the best beaches on the Isle of Wight, not feet from the bar. Seasonal opening only.
