A unique operation on the site of the original Arreton Barn, resurrected from the ashes is a brand new craft and drinking experience. If it’s for a cup of tea and a scone, or browse in the many craft and gift shops, or a pint from the Scarecrow Brewery, then this is the place to come. Located next to the brewery, is a shop where you will find a selection of Island brewed bottled beers, take home a few and have your holiday memories with a bottle of ale. The full menu starts at 6 o’clock, but if it’s a hearty snack provided from the shortened menu, that you are after, then that is provided throughout the day. Always a good selection of beers brewed by the Islands four Breweries, supplemented by a selection from the Badger Brewery range. Why not take a stroll to the 11th century church of St George, passing the remains of the ancient barn and the original carp pond that supported nearby monks, before that is, the “Dairyman’s Daughter” was there. But, I hear you say, who was the Dairyman’s Daughter – seek out her grave in the churchyard, look for Elizabeth Wallbridge, who died of consumption in 1801 at the age of 31 and made famous by the Reverend Leigh Richmond in “Annals of the Poor”, selling over a million copies in many languages, a colossal amount for its time.

Extensively refurbished and enlarged country pub, eating house, rebuilt sympathetically in the ‘Harvester’ style, featuring the scull of Michael Morey, the last man to be hanged on the Island. There are two bars, with many cosy corners for that intimate evening and an impressive menu with a good value carvery on Sundays. There is a huge car park, adventure playground for the children, with stunning views from the rear patio whilst keeping an eye on their antics.

A lovely old country pub, still managing to maintain much character and charm after a recent refurbishment. Beamed ceilings and interesting brassware compliment the varied assortment of old pub signs and bric a brac. The pub used to share the village with the 'Red Lion' a short way down the road, but closed many years ago.
