Built in 1454 and reckoned to be the oldest established inn on the Isle
of Wight, this stone built pub has an extensive menu and large
garden. A recent fire robbed the pub of its thatched roof, but it is now fully operational under a new fire-proof slate one. An extension has provided much needed additional
space and the original part of the building has maintained a cosy atmosphere
and wanders a little like Dr Who's Tardis, offering seclusion on the way
without feeling left out. The present owners have not allowed the fine kitchen
and wonderful selection of fresh food to detract from the quality of the
beer, which is always in fine condition.
