This large village pub has been going through
a well deserved makeover during the last few years. The previous tenants established
a policy of good beer featuring the best of local ales. This is now being built
upon by the new incumbents. Good pub grub is now a feature and the new beer-garden
is a real asset during the warmer months. There are frequent theme nights, quizzes
and live music.
A lovely pub, well worth a visit.

Greene King Abbott

Delightfully
unspoilt country local, close to Alum Bay and scenic National Trust downs. The
name is taken from the pre-Victorian name for nearby Tennyson Down, renamed after
Alfred lord Tennyson, Queen Victoria's poet laureate who lived at nearby Farringford
House, just along the road. This hospitable pub is an ideal base for walkers,
strollers or cyclist alike. An interesting range of home cooked food includes
a seasonal variety of fresh local game, fish and vegetables, served in good sized
portions and there is a children's menu, Bed and breakfast is available and a
campsite just a few hundred yards away.
