Very picturesque, heavily thatched building, at the entrance of
the Old Village. Two beautiful gardens to the front and side. The main garden
and outside eating area has a children's adventure playground surrounded by a
conveniently sized fence. Inside we will find, two cosy rooms, tables and a single
bar. The Tavern although without its own car park is continently placed for the
very large Old Village car and coach park.

A newcomer to the Islands Pub scene and oasis to the erstwhile beer desert of
Shanklin. The 'Steamer', previously the Lincoln Hotel, is one of the chain, which
includes the 'Bargeman's' at Newport, Dairyman's Daughter at Arreton and 'Spyglass',
Ventnor. Already earning a high reputation for its hospitality, real ale and food,
it is a popular venue for locals and visitors looking for choice and quality.
There are daily food specials and sea food is a speciality. An ever changing and
interesting range of beers with the occasional beer festival runs in conjunction
with the other group pubs. Frequent live music to entertain, from some of the
Islands most popular groups. 2,3,4,5,6,7all day summer 9,10,11,16,

the most photographed pub in the country and one, which has adorned many a chocolate

unspoilt, a major refurbishment robbed the interior of much of its character.

Charming 19th century thatched property with car parking at
front and rear. Having two established Tudor bars with decking, gardens and chine
walk. Accommodation and restaurant. Long established Henry VIII Kitchen specialises
in steaks and grills. Function facilities and entertainment. During the summer
months drinkers can enjoy the large garden (floodlit at night) with a stream,
wild flowers and ferns, and red squirrels. Well worth a visit for good beer and
food.

This pub is a gem. Destined for oblivion or worse
still to become a holiday home, this building, which has stood since 1621 must
have some claim to being one of the oldest buildings with a license on the Island.
After a succession of failed ventures, the present owner has put back plenty of
the original charm for which it was well known when part of the old Ventnor Burt's
empire. Gone are the snugs and small rooms removed by the previous incumbent,
but this has not spoilt the old world charm. On a rainy winters day it may just
be another cosy refuge from the elements, but on a summers day when the sky is
blue and the suns rays are dancing on Sandown Bay, there is no finer view in England
than from here. There is an interesting and varied menu and no better place to
rest before tackling the nearby Chine.

Picture postcard pub at the foot of Shanklin Chine. Single L shaped bar in former
fisherman's cottage of great character with flagstone floors and exposed beamed
ceiling. Patio onto the beach. Maybe recognised as the 'Whip and Kettle ' in the
TV show, 'Reach for the Moon'. Live music Friday.
Closed during the winter.
Shanklin
Sandown's
sister town is largely a pleasant Victorian seaside resort centered on some attractive
cliffs. The Old Village is of rather greater antiquity, and has adorned many a
chocolate box. The Chine, reached from the Old Village, is an attractive tree-lined
gorge, which leads down to the beach by Fisherman's Cottage, where still may be
seen remains of PLUTO, the "pipeline under the ocean" through which petrol was
supplied to the troops after the Normandy Landings. The well-maintained Rylestone
Gardens line one side of the Chine. Walkers might like to take the footpath, which
leads from Shanklin through the leafy Undercliff to that part of Luccombe Village,
which hasn't slipped into the sea, and on to Ventnor. A steep, narrow ravine,
the Devil's Chimney gives access to the Landslip Gardens.
